Notes:

In this episode we take an in-depth look at Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World".

What do you think of this song? Does it still hold as a 'good' song today? How about the chord progression? Pedal non-harmonics? Interesting?

March 18, 2022 marks 37 years since its original release.  Rick says that this song is great. Do you think it is great? Why?  Tears For Fears released a new album in March of 2022. How does this sound in comparison to their older music?

I like this song, but I don't think it would reach the same level of popularity today. The song is interesting and has nice chord progressions, but it is not as exciting as songs that currently play on the radio.

I do like this song, even by today's standards. I think that it could be popular if it were released today, simply because of its nostalgic sound. When it was made though, its popularity could probably be attributed to the fact that it was something new for that time. Though I doubt that Tears for Fears had a lot of music theory in mind when they created this tune, it all comes together very well and is satisfying to listen to. Their new music sounds rather similar but a bit more modern.

I might be biased because I practically grew up listening to this song, but I think it has a great, simple melody--the kind that always gets stuck in your head. Though it is nostalgic to hear again, I don't believe it would receive the same popularity if it was released in today's world, mainly because different music styles are becoming more widely accepted.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the song. I find it too repetitve. This might also be from it being overplayed within my lifetime, which I guess would mean it is still popoular.

I think it should have the same level of popularity. but my taste is different compared to everyone elses. I love how there is this dupal and triple feel on the same line. it helps run very nicely

unfortunately to me, this is one of those painfully catchy songs.

I like this song, but I do not think that it would be popular if it was released today. It is very different from current pop songs and would stand out from other popular songs today.

This song was always an OK song for me. Nothing to special for it. I think it got popular again from TikTok and thats why everyone was listening to it again. I like the chords and the progression. OK song afterall.

I do think that this song holds up pretty well today. I think that no matter how long ago a song is written, a catchy song is catchy forever.

I think there is a sort of nuaced view of what good music is, often, older music is seen as 'good' because its known and has a nostalgia with a certain group of people but 'good' is specific to  certain person. I like the song but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it.

I love this song, especially with all the of the new variations and covers.  I find it very catchy.

I personally do not like this song much because I have heard it too much. I think If it were released today it would still become popular because it is very chill and catchy.

I feel like this song could be popular today, considering its simplicity which seems to be popular now. On the other hand it might not go anywhere because of how long the intro/sections are, everything seems to be shorter nowadays.
