Overview: The students will view films about Alexander Nevsky and William Wallace (Braveheart)and listen to their musical scores. They will research the historical period and the lives of Alexander Nevsky and William Wallace and compare their lives as military leaders. They will also compare the musical scores written for the films. |

Materials: (type in 8 lines or less) Film- Braveheart, CD of the sound track of Braveheart, and the enhanced CD of Alexander Nevsky. |

Warm-Up: (type in four lines or less) A member of the Society for Creative Anachronism dressed in medieval costume will give the students a background on the history of the Middle Ages and the weapons and protective clothing that was worn in battles. |

|
Procedure: (type in 43 lines or less) The students will go to the computer lab and search for information about Alexander Nevsky and William Wallace. We will have a discussion on the two military leaders comparing their lives and motivation for their leadership. First, we will listen to and view an enhanced CD of Alexander Nevsky using a CD-ROM drive and display panel. The next two days we will watch clips of the film Braveheart . The next day we will discuss and give critical responses to both films. The final day of the lesson the students will write comparative paragraphs on the two military leaders and critical responses to the musical scores of the films. |
