Fallingwater: Frank Lloyd Wright and the Kaufmanns

 

Overview:

The class will explore the relationship of Edgar Kaufmann and Frank Lloyd Wright. The emphasis of this study is organic architecture, which Wright used to full advantage in the creation of the Kaufmann house. Visual analysis and research activities are designed to give the learner insight about the structure and relationship of the client to the architect.

computers (with CD-Rom, word processing, and on-line internet capabilities), Slide projector, Video Cassette Player and TV Monitor, Computer with video projector, Some Video Tape on Fallingwater and Frank Lloyd Wright, Some software on Frank Lloyd Wright, Some written material on Fallingwater and Frank Lloyd Wright. Field trip to Fallingwater.

Warm-Up: The student will learn about: 

the commissions Wright recieved from Kaufmann, the realtionship of architect to client, the commision for Fallingwater, the methods, techniques, and principles employed in the design of Fallingwater, and the elemnts and principles of art, as related to architecture.

Procedure: (type in 43 lines or less)

#1 Watch slides of Fallingwater. Respond by describing as many elements and principles as possible. Collect the findings on the computer as part of a journal entry. Use one type of critical analysis; formal.
